Chivukula Markandeya Sarma was born on the 5th of february 1921
to Chivukula Ramamma and Sri Rama Sastry. His father, Chivukula Sri Rama Sastry was an erudite sanskrit scholar and
was an expert in Vyakaranam(Grammar) of sanskrit. He practised also as a priest and mainly performed marriages and yagnams.
Markandeya Sarma was born when Markandeya Puranam was being recited by Sri Rama Sastry to a group. Thus was he named as Marandeya
Sarma
